In 2017, Philippine media giant ABS-CBN Corp. filed an $8 million lawsuit against streaming website Kissasian.com for illegally streaming its content, including 27 television shows and movies. The suit, filed in a US Federal District Court, alleges trademark and copyright infringement., Despite attempts to contact the site, it continues to stream ABS-CBN’s shows. The action is part of ABS-CBN’s broader anti-piracy campaign, which recently resulted in nearly $11 million in judgments against other pirate websites.
Today, Kisassian continues to illegally stream movies and TV series from Korea, Japan, Taiwan, China, Thailand, and more. While piracy is hard to beat, media companies like ABS-CBN are adamant in their fight against piracy, especially since Philippine media, albeit good in quality, is rarely pirated online compared to other countries’ content.
